Languages

We believe that languages play an important part in a child’s education. Over the last 10 years French has been taught on a daily basis to all classes. However, realising the importance of languages in the modern world, we have now introduced a second language, Spanish.

French is incorporated into our curriculum twice a week for all classes culminating in a high Key stage 2 level. Spanish is taught weekly from Years 3 to 6.

In the early years languages are taught through songs, games and activities, leading onto a strong emphasis on oral communication and the opportunity to show their work through plays and assemblies.

By the time our pupils start the Senior class in French, they should have reached level 4 or Key Stage 3 and depending on their ability they should work their way towards level 6. A few students would be working towards GCSE foundation work.

As part of our languages curriculum we have taken part in French exchanges and have had strong liaison with French schools and way of life.
