Music
At Eveline Day School we believe that music plays an important part of the child's development. From April 2006 every child from Year 2 to Year 6 will be taught a musical instrument as part of the music curriculum (Recorder, Trumpet or Flute).
We have two music teachers who each give a 45 minute lesson to the children each week developing their idea of notation, rhythm, melody, harmony, form, style and expression. The children are encouraged through music lessons and IT to listen, create, respond to and appreciate and enjoy music making. By the end of Key Stage 2, increased repertoire of songs in unison and 2 parts, being able to read simple tunes, have an understanding of simple time and key signatures.
They will have listened to a large variety of styles with a variety of instruments.
Private music lessons are available at the school for the following instruments:
- Piano
- Percussion/drums
- Violin
- Guitar
From April 2006, we are entering into a new wider opportunities programme for Years 3/4 and senior class. The aim of this programme is to teach an instrument to the whole class on a weekly basis and the class teacher is also involved. This has proved to be very successful in a pilot scheme involving some state schools in Wandsworth. We will be the first private school in Wandsworth to take part in this scheme.
