Education and care for working families 7:30am - 6:30pm Monday to Friday 51 weeks a year

Sporty Minis
Sporty Minis is a tailored 30 minute physical development programme targeted at children from 3 to 5 years old within the School setting. Each and every session is based around the essential fundamental movement skills that are needed during and after the process of development from day to day life specifically when participating in sports related task. These Fundamental movements skills are based around locomotive, Non-Locomotive and Manipulative skills needed for physical development.
Inspire Ballet
We start with 'floor barre' ballet exercises that help the children channel their energy through to the ends of their finger tips and toes, through their spine and smiles! We position ourselves in a circle to help direct focus and we build the children's confidence gently through exercises both together and taking turns.
We move up to standing and the children join in with a circle dance that is composed of the basic ballet moves including, pliés, tendus, transfer of weight, port de bras, balances and usually some small jumps.
After all this focussed work they are excited to move on to the 'ballet adventure' which (unlike the opening sequences which are set and repetitive) gives the children the chance to master techniques. These are different every week and the children love to hear what adventure they will be recreating. The adventure consists of travelling exercises to bring to life a story such as a trip to the Elves workshop or Hot air balloon ride to different countries or a trip to the zoo etc, runs, walks, skips, marches, gallops etc make up this animated sequence. Directions and levels are included to help train spatial awareness and coordination.
At the end we do a reverence (a bow or a curtsey) to say thank you for the session. We combine 'real' ballet vocabulary with imagery right from the little ones to help them learn the positions, moves and steps such as 'demi plié'. '1st position' 'port de bras etc', the music is chosen especially to match the exercises and changes each week for the adventure and each term for the opening sections. We are very animated and promote good manners and friendliness in all ballet classes.
Petit Pierrot French
FUN FRENCH LESSONS Les ateliers des petits Level 2
What happens during a lesson? Oh là là ! The French sessions are full of play, songs, movement, and fun! Children learn French naturally by playing and exploring together. Oui, they really do!
Learning vocabulary and sentences: Through fun games and repeated activities, children start to memorise vocabulary and use simple French sentences associated to each topic.
Listening and sounds: We help children to hear and play with French sounds and letters. This is an important first step for learning to read and speak confidently.
Growing language skills: Our lessons mix practice and creative activities. Children gain confidence, learn new words and begin speaking French with ease, all while having lots of fun! Voilà !
Practise at home: Children will have fun with our original songs and rhymes directly linked to the programme while effortlessly absorbing French vocabulary, linguistic patterns and grammatical structures. It is also great practice for an authentic accent and good pronunciation. Examples of songs from the Autumn term:
Original French songs & rhymes for children (MP3s only) are available for purchase from Petit Pierrot’s website shop www.clubpetitpierrot.co.uk.
Speech and Drama
Speech and Drama is a very popular subject at EDS that is taught as an extra-curricular subject. The ethos of the lesson is to develop –
· Effective communication skills
· Clear speech
· Confidence in oneself when speaking, performing and presenting
All Pre-School children are invited to take part in the performing arts festival and New Era Academy Speech and Drama exam. The lessons are structured and cover speech exercises, movement games and vocal and facial expression. We always work towards an end of term activity such as the Christmas recital, a performing arts festival and the New Era Academy Speech and Drama exam in June. At EDS we look to give students as many speaking opportunities as possible to practice and develop their skills.
The festival (Spring Term) is an opportunity for children to perform to an audience of family, friends, students from other schools and in front of an adjudicator who provides written and verbal feedback. The New Era Academy (Summer Term) is a fully accredited exam board monitored by Ofqual. Level 3 speech and drama exams (Grade 6 and above) accrue UCAS points and can be added to UCAS forms when applying to university.
Ms Shanila Taylor is a fully qualified teacher who previously taught as a class teacher at Eveline Day School. I am now a specialist Speech and Drama teacher teaching in the independent and state sectors with students ranging from aged 3 to 18 years old. I am also a LAMDA examiner and examine both nationally and internationally. I also run training courses for Wandsworth Borough Council and judge their annual “Word of Mouth” poetry speaking competition.
At the end of the sessions most of the children could say the poem back to me. I use very child friendly material to help them learn quickly so that they can have fun performing their work.
