School Travel Plan
At Eveline Day School, we develop the next generation of sustainably minded travellers. We were proud and delighted to receive Gold accreditation from TfL as part of their 'Travel for Life' scheme in September 2025.
As part of our commitment to sustainable, safe and healthy travel, we support children and parents. We have ensured that our school offers plenty of space for bikes and scooters and we are well-connected with public transport. Our Key Stage One enjoys scooter training and we work with Wandsworth Council to provide Bikeability training for our Year 5 and 6 children. Within Computing lessons, children are taught how to use the TfL Journey Planner website and to find a safe way to travel to school without the car. Our Pre-School and KS1 will role-play pedestrian situations within school and practice travelling safely in the street, supported by officers from Wandsworth Council. Every year, our Year 6 class are treated to a transition talk from TfL, advising them how to travel safely to their new school.
We run the Big Walk and Wheel every year, encouraging children to use their feet, not an engine, to get to school as much as possible. This involves competitions between classes, a Golden Padlock which rewards someone who brought in a bike or scooter and a Bike-It Breakfast to celebrate sustainable travel and discuss why it is so important. We want children to be fit and healthy and consider walking an attractive means of transport, so we organise a pedometer challenge every year; last year we travelled to Paris as a school and the year before to Scotland!
Travel should be fun, so we give creative opportunities to our students, such as Bling Your Bike where children decorate their bike and poster competitions to encourage others to travel safely.
Wherever possible, we will walk and use public transport to travel around London. In KS2, we seek to give children the opportunity to plan our journeys and consider what challenges we might face and how to solve them.
